METALCOAT 480
The New Coating Generation
To achieve this, attention was focused on the following 5 areas:
Quality of coating application
The individual drive of coating cylinder, counter pressure cylinder as well as the lacquer head rollers, offers a whole range of options for achieving an optimum, homogeneous, finely metered coating application adapted to production conditions. This means that the quantity of coating applied can be minimized at any time.
Reduction of changeover times
The global trend towards smaller and smaller job sizes means that changeover times are increasingly crucial to the production process. For this reason, one of the main areas in the development of METALCOAT 480 was the reduction of these changeover times. Reduction in time for format change and lacquer of up to 25 % were achieved through features such as
In absolute figures, this represents a time reduction for format plus coating change of up to 25% (from 40 min to 30 min on average). This means that, for an average job size of 3000 plates at a production speed of 6000 sheets per hour, METALCOAT 480 was able to achieve an approx. 17 % increase in productivity.
Provision for future developments in the coating of thin sheet metal down to 0.100 mm
Savings in material costs in the production of tins and cans will continue to be achieved in future through the use of extremely thin sheet metal. METALCOAT 480 anticipates this development by doing everything possible to allow the coating of very thin metal sheets with the new integrated features.
Application of water-based and solvent-based lacquers or UV varnish
METALCOAT 480 can be used for all currently available coating systems, such as solvent-based coatings, water based coatings and UV varnishes. Traditional rubber lined coating cylinders as well as coating cylinders with photo polymer plates can be used for UV varnish application.
Touch & Control operation
The newly developed operating philosophy implemented, using the touch panel with a flat menu structure, allows intuitive operation and user guidance. Another completely new feature is the visual representation with memory function for any job-related parameter changes. The operator can concentrate on the job in hand and leave the task of remembering to the machine. All job-related settings can be memorized. This means greater transparency in all production conditions for the operator, greater ease-of-use and faster setup times.
